As a label and a listener, I’m interested in new sounds, fun, dark spaces, and the weird line where complete avant-garde experimentation begins to meet up with pop sensibility.

  1. Jerome Kersey ft. Elizabeth Jaeger – “Envie”
JKR$Y is Zack from Breakfast Mountain’s other project and this song features our friend Elizabeth Jaeger who is an amazing conceptual artist who sadly just expatriated to NYC. This song makes me feel smart and sexy and awesome.

  2. Jeffrey Jerusalem – “Smiling and Tender”
I always loved Jeff’s beats and synth lines and 1979 hyphy drug party vibes and his newest batch of songs, his most focused and structured yet, have captured a new, weird, uncomfortable vibe like a Lynch film on molly.

  3. Feelings – “X”
Ian Anderson was Guidance Counselor and now he’s Feelings. Drummer’s gone, guitar is gone; the dark, brooding lyric is married to a dark, brooding bass beat and Ian’s more weird and desperate on record than ever.

  4. Brainstorm – “Word Up”
Brainstorm is electric guitar and drums and always succeeds in taking me to a place I didn’t think I was going. And a dash of tuba can’t hurt. Brainstorm have shirked every trend in town and yet somehow sound like the best of Portland blended up and compacted.

  5. Ghosties – “Beach Industrial”
Ghosties is me so there’s no much I can say for it. I have a long attention span.

  6. Wampire – “Glitter Man”
They’ve been many things to many people in Portland, but Wampire has always been the song and performance experimentation of Rocky and Eric, and “Glitter Man” was recorded at one of my favorite weird peaks in 2009. It’s a Rocky classic, weirder and subtler and darker than it’s Eric counterpart “Magic Light”.

  7. Sons of Huns – “Behemoth Hop”
If you hate stuff that rocks then go ahead and skip this one because that’s all it does. Sons of Huns are relentless.

  8. Prescription Pills – “Outlet”
Cole plays bass in Wampire but he was doing Rx Pills long before that. A natural disciple of Guidance Counselor and Starfucker, his songs are dark and sugary sweet.

  9. Breakfast Mountain = “Rapturequest”
Recorded for the recent fake-ass rapture joke, this track’s a full length BKMT spirit journey in thick black paint, oil-based.

    breakfastmountain.bandcamp.com

  10. CC’s Fine-Toothed Comb – “Evil City Music”
Chris Cantino’s layered guitars peel away sheets of rock mystique, deconstructing art-punk and rock’n’roll with playful grace. Guitars phaze in and out, sing-along-worthy.

  11. Support Force – “Unholy” (Demo)
Support Force is a good band like I’m seventeen and driving around in my friend’s car listening to our favorite record. The drums and sound textures and worthy of headphone analytics; the melodies are worthy of radio anthemics.
