At Our Heels – Misanthropy And Godlessness Album Review (w/ Full Album Stream)

Brainchild of songwriter Alex Pulisci, At Our Heels released their acclaimed self-titled EP two years ago. For their debut album, Pulisci enlisted former Light This City drummer and current Heartsounds frontman, Ben Murray, to man the drums. The result is a bombastic hardcore record that seldom lets up.

While At Our Heels’ EP was easily comparable to the likes of early AFI and The Misfits, Misanthropy And Godlessness finds the band coming into their own. The first track, “Through Their Teeth,” is brutal and instantly makes you want to start a circle pit in your bedroom (or car or cubicle). “Teeth And Bone” is one of the best songs on the album and recalls the intensity of American Nightmare’s “I Saved Latin.”

Clocking in at a little over 25 minutes, the 13-track album is a real hardcore affair. The songs are compact and never drag. Pulisci’s vocals have improved with grit and piss. This is no doubt one of the best debut albums I’ve heard in some time, and the band’s potential is infinite.
