The Heavens And The Earth – Kosmichete Album Review

The Heavens And The Earth occupy a weird, nebulous space in the music world, one that was previously not very populated, and even shoved aside by most critics. The term “dance rock,” historically only applied to pioneers like !!! and even way back to those like Joy Division, has now become a bit more crowded, with bands like Holy Fuck, The Rapture, Hot Chip, and Shy Child having a larger presence. The Heavens And The Earth has a much more electronic, bass heavy feel to it than most of the aforementioned bands, and the band’s debut EP, Kosmichete is instrumental, with the focus solely on the movement. The synths abound, and it the songs inspire a sort of head-bobbing that that is not the bubbly pop kind. It is a darker, moodier blend, and the hints of “rock” are few and far between.

If you’re not into this type of music, especially the more electronic end of the spectrum, this will not be your thing. It feels a bit repetitive, especially towards the end. There are a ton of over-embellished songs, the opener “Galaxy Be Gone” a prime example. But for those of you interested in venturing in the lesser-known regions of electronic dance rock, this is a good place to start.
