This mixtape is composed of songs released by Own Records, a small independent label based in Luxemburg (Europe). We hope you will love these songs as much as we do. Federico Durand – “Elin”
This song is a poem coming from Argentina. The album will be out before the end of March, and I recommend you check out his album released last year by Spekk (Japan). [It] is certainly one of my personal highlights of 2010.
Talons – “Rowboat”
Mike Tolan is probably one of the most moving songwriters of his generation. “Rowboat” is a heartfelt moment.
Good Night & Good Morning – “Sister”
We are very proud this very talented and promising band is now part of our family. With subtle songwriting and cascading soundscapes, Good Night & Good Morning aims to balance intimacy, distance, warmth and atmosphere.
Travels – “What You Haven’t Seen”
Travels, a super-duo featuring Mona Elliott of Victory at Sea and Anar Badalov of Metal Hearts, creates songs that are unmistakably original and inhabit intimate and honest space. This song is pure magic. I saw Travels playing live a few years ago, and they are totally awesome. And very unique and kind people as well.
S – “Save You”
S is Jenn Ghetto, co-leader of sorely missed Carissa’s Wierd (one of my all time favorite bands). Her singular ability to write lyrics that are devastating in their honesty and unfettered in their elegance is her signature.
Chihei Hatakeyama – “Voices II”
Chihei Hatakeyama is a sound artist and musician living on the outskirts of Tokyo. Each of his songs is a journey. The perfect soundtrack for introspection.
The Green Kingdom – “Into The Magic Night”
His compositions blur the line between soundscape and structure, utilizing a variety of processed acoustic and electronic sources, sampled textures and field recordings. If you like Mountains, Shuttle358, Fenton, The Boats, Sawako or Harold Budd, you’ll love The Green Kingdom.
Firekites – “Same Suburb Different Park”

Charge Group – “Lullaby for the Apocalypse”
Their sound exists on a knife edge, balancing perfectly between emotion-fueled freedom and complete fragility. Well-controlled silence, mountain-sized whirling soundscapes and orchestral intermissions. Plus, these Australians are incredible live.
Trouble Books – “Night Of The Pelican Street Sweeper”
We always wanted to release an ideal cross of indie pop and warm ambient. Trouble Books made a dream come true.
Square On Both Sides – “The Lines We Seize”
It’s all about subtlety, precision, elegance and closeness. Behings sobs is a precious songwriter coming from Germany.
Bexar Bexar – “Window Piece”
This song is like waking up in the morning on a sunny summer day; open all the windows and take a deep breath. It’s pure oxygen. Just perfect. (Editor’s note: Bexar Bexar was in our last mixtape, as well, which was crafted by Western Vinyl!)
Uzi & Ari – “Asleep In Armor”
Creeping melodies, translucent blips and bleeps, and precise arrangements. Uzi & Ari manages to write an entire album filled with catchy, accessible and above all, good songs.
Gregor Samsa – “°”
Gregor Samsa is the first non-local band released by Own Records, and it might be the closest to our identity as a label. Gregor Samsa was and still is a crucial and precious band for Own Records. In a perfect world, they should be superstars.
