Creepy Abandoned Themepark

There’s something inherently jarring about themeparks in the best of circumstances. They are carefully curated miniature worlds where the highest measure of success is to create something so artificial that at first glance it almost seems effortless. Themeparks become exponentially more unsettling– and more interesting– when the meticulous landscaping and false cheeriness is dropped and they fall into disrepair. These photographs are from Nara Dreamland, a Japanese themepark mirrored on Disneyland, but without the high production values. The themepark quickly went out of business and was abandoned with the majority of its infrastructure still in place.
